Dress to kill: Six holiday outfit ideas inspired by The White Lotus

If it’s not the dreamy set locations, top-notch casting, unhinged (but still kind of lovable) characters, or clever cultural references that everyone loves about The White Lotus, it’s the outfits. Season 3 is set in one of Thailand’s most luxurious resorts on Koh Samui, and costume designer, Alex Bovaird understood the assignment: Luxe, idyllic island outfits with bold prints, colours and breezy silhouettes.

Thanks to Bovaird, we’ve got endless beach outfit inspiration for our next getaway. Get The White Lotus look with these six key trends from the show.

The open-collar shirt

Bold linen shirts are the star of the show with everyone from Rick, Lockie, Jaclyn and Mook spotted in one. But ever since Mook’s short-sleeve shirt graced our screens (yes, the one embroidered with a golden coconut tree and monkey motif), we haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. An open-collar shirt is a versatile suitcase staple you can dress-up with statement earrings for sunset dinners or style casually like Jaclyn’s open shirt-and-shorts look. Discover our selection of relaxed fit shirts, decorated with fiery floral embroidery and luxe lace panels.

Styling tip: Pair with lightweight linen trousers for a sophisticated day-to-night outfit.

The billowing sundress

Grazia sums it up perfectly when they said, ‘it’s hard not to be obsessed with Victoria Ratliff’. Not only does her OTT Southern accent give us the giggles every time she opens her mouth, her assortment of colourful dresses and kaftans supply us with endless poolside inspo. Embody her dramatic yet somehow also relaxed vibe with a striped sundress that’ll make a statement by the sun loungers, or pick a style decorated with pigment-popping palm leaves to match the tropical backdrop of your dream holiday destination. Complete the ultimate Parker Posey look with oversized sunglasses and silky scarves

The white dress aesthetic

Portrayed as a holistic hun and spiritual seeker with a desire to convert to Buddhism, Piper Ratliff’s fashion choices reflect her character traits impeccably. Featuring a mix of sweet, vintage-inspired florals and paisley patterns, our favourite look of hers is the broderie white dress with puff sleeves and lace trims from episode one. Incorporate a white dress (or two) into your warm-weather wardrobe for timeless looks that give a nod to the clean-girl aesthetic, too.

Styling tip: stay on trend and complete your simple, sun-drenched looks with golden pendants and fisherman flat sandals

The statement kaftans + one-shoulder swimsuits

Let’s be honest, you can’t go on holiday this summer without a kaftan in your suitcase. And after counting the number of hotel guests flouncing around in one throughout the series so far, you’d have to agree with me. If Jaclyn’s archival spring 2006 Chanel dress wasn’t enough to convert you, unplug and unwind in style with our range of kaftans and cover-ups, whisked from lighter-than-air fabrics with bold, boho-inspired prints and tropical tones. Level up the main character energy with a gold one-shoulder swimsuit and statement beach bag to pack all your sun-bathing essentials.

The crochet cover-up

If you haven’t already got a bit of crochet in your summer selection, you will want some after seeing Chelsea’s hotel arrival dress. Played by the babe that is Amy Lou Wood, Chelsea’s effortlessly cool approach to fashion, along with her fun, out-going (and very British) personality, is the reason she’s been coined the favourite of the show. Tap into her hippie-influenced holiday looks with our slouchy crochet cover ups, stitched with classic floral square designs and shimmery zig-zag stripes. And because things happen in threes, don’t forget to put colour-drenched bikinis and claw clips on the packing list for trendy looks made for basking in the sunshine.

The holiday clothes with tropical prints

What better symmetry than to style the most-trusted summer print on the most-trusted (and nicest) character in the show. Take a leaf out of Belinda’s book and dress in pieces that suit the scenery – and that wallpaper. The scenery being a bucket list-worthy paradise island known for its palm-fringed beaches, vibrant rainforests and posh spas. Think feminine, floaty dresses cloaked with bright, tropical patterns or floral swimwear to show off during spa days that refresh your mind, body and spirit.

Styling tip: Finesse every look with a Plumeria flower tucked behind your ear, the Belinda way.
