Royal Ascot Dress Code

Off to Royal Ascot? Decipher the race day dress code for this season’s most-coveted event with our sartorial dos and don’ts for the Queen Anne and Village Enclosures, and the Royal Enclosure.

Royal Enclosure

Limited Edition Rania Maxi Dress, £179

Ladies are required to wear formal daywear in the Royal Enclosure, renowned for its sartorial elegance. This year, for the first time ever, jumpsuits have been introduced into the strict dress code – so what are the rules and regulations?

• Dresses and skirts should fall just above the knee or longer

• Dresses and tops should have straps of one inch or thicker – strapless, off-the-shoulder, halter-neck and spaghetti straps are not allowed

• Jackets and pashminas can be worn but remember, the garment underneath must have straps as stated above

• Jumpsuits are welcome. They need to be full-length to the ankle, with regulations matching that for dresses

• Trouser suits are also welcome, and must be matching in material and colour

• A hat or headpiece with a base of 4in (10cm) or more in diameter must be worn – no fascinators allowed!

• Midriffs must be covered

• Fancy dress, novelty and branded/promotional clothing are not allowed

Queen Anne Enclosure and Village Enclosure

Camille Dress, was £119 now £83.30

The formal dress code continues in the Queen Anne and Village Enclosure – however, the rules here are a little more relaxed.

• Dresses, jumpsuits and tops must have straps

• Jumpsuits and trouser suits must be full length – so save the shorts and culottes for another event

• A hat, headpiece or fascinator must be worn

• Midriffs must be covered

• Fancy dress, novelty and branded/promotional clothing are not allowed
