Roald Dahl’s books were such a huge part of my childhood and remain firm children’s favourites to this day, so getting to bring such an iconic character, in such a classic story to life is not only a joy, it’s an honour.
We have brilliant wigs and wardrobe teams at the theatre, and the whole ‘Trunchformation’ takes about 30 minutes. I do my own make-up but have help getting my wig and clothes on!
I don’t really have any rituals, but I always wear my whistle the same way every show.
The kids and I get on really well. They’re what makes the show, and their energy and personalities are infectious. They make me laugh daily, and they’re far better actors than me so they don’t need to be scared of Craige as well as Miss Trunchbull.
My favourite song is ‘Quiet’… you can hear a pin drop every night and it still gives me goosebumps.
I’d love to play Bruce Bogtrotter – you get to eat chocolate cake and rock out at the end… what’s not to like?!
I’ve fallen over plenty of times whilst running around on stage, but the funniest thing for me is when one or two kids in the audience really chuckle and belly laugh… it makes the rest of the audience giggle and it’s really hard to keep a straight face!
It’s really hard to pick just one, but if I had to pick a favourite Roald Dahl book it’d be George’s Marvellous Medicine.
Teleportation would be pretty cool… it would make the commute easier at the weekends!
I would sell my soul for one of my nan’s Christmas dinners!
I’d banish any and every thing to do with animal cruelty.
