My eldest, Bea, is very creative and loves a good crafting project – mostly as an opportunity to get herself messy. Both of them loved making this Halloween glitter slime, as did my scientist husband! You can make the slime in various colours – we opted for purple as it’s Bea’s favourite colour but green and orange would be wonderfully Halloween-y too.
Remember, as the slime contains boric acid and glue, it’s not ideal for small children who like to put things in their mouths, so keep an eye on any younger siblings because it shouldn’t be ingested.
240ml PVA glue 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda Food colouring gel (we used purple) 1 tbsp contact lens solution. The solution must contain boric acid, otherwise the mixture won’t come together Glitter (we used a combination of silver and gold)
1. Pour the PVA glue into a bowl and add the bicarbonate of soda. Mix together with a spoon. 2. Add the food colouring gel and mix together until you get the desired shade. 3. Now for the best part: add the glitter! 4. Add the contact lens solution and mix. The mixture should become stringy, and start coming away from the edge of the bowl. 5. Take the mixture out of the bowl and knead between your hands (this is best done by an adult). It will start off very sticky, but the mixture will firm up after a minute or two.
Your glitter slime is now ready to play with. The children loved adding their plastic spiders to make it extra spooky!
