I’m a Graphic Designer and this is my 101 on Christmas table settings

‘Tis the season of dinner parties. From Sunday roasts with your closest friends to Christmas Day with all the family, all good hosts know the table decorations are as important as the food itself. In need of some Christmas table setting inspiration? Our Graphic Designer Nat is our go-to girl for cool, outside-the-box interior ideas. Fresh off the Eurostar from a weekend in Amsterdam, where homeware brand Anna + Nina hails from, she’s bursting with creative concepts to try this year. Here’s her hosting 101…

Find dinner candles that spark compliments

For mood lighting that brings all the vibes, these nostalgic candy cane dinner candles from Meri Meri are a must. For an extra playful touch that’ll take you straight back to childhood, pair with these adorable Anna + Nina Christmas tree candle holders (just look at those little painted baubles, so cute I can’t deal) and Winter Berries candle holders.

Choose maximalist Christmas crackers for extra impact

Forget naff Christmas crackers from the supermarket that drop glitter everywhere. Meri Meri know how to make them. With oversized Holly Christmas Crackers (which contain golden crowns even fashion lovers will appreciate) or these striped beauties tied with a velvet bow you’re spoiled for choice. I’m hosting two dinner parties just to get them both!

Blend nostalgia and modernity with your china choices

When I saw these Anna + Nina Christmas tree small plates, I literally couldn’t put them down. Painted with the most charming star-topped Christmas tree, they make my stomach flip with excitement that’s reminiscent of being six on Christmas Day. To make them cool (not cutesy) layer with these striped dinner plates and scalloped edge napkins in a mix-and match of colours.

Make playful place settings

It may be the graphic designer in me – but no dinner party table is complete without a hand-written place setting. Continue the festive theme with some velvet ribbon, colourful pens and simple white card.

Keep track of whose glass is whose with colour-coded bows

Not only does this idea look *adorable* it’s practical too. I love tying the same colour ribbon around each guest’s glass as I’ve put on their placecard setting. For added cute factor, use with these heart-motif champagne glasses. Want to go all out with the bows? Take it to the next level by popping these velvet bows on their napkin too.

Add the final flourish with kitsch drinks jugs

It’s not a party without free-flowing champagne, right? Anna + Nina’s painted champagne jug is perfectly kitsch and totally a talking point. Dot a couple down your table to save yourself lots of trips to the fridge.

Don’t forget the mantlepiece for that post-dinner games session

My favourite part of the Christmas Day, scrabble around a roaring fire. If, like me, you don’t have a working fireplace, I’ll be bringing the cosy vibes with Meri Meri’s paper tree garland, gold-dipped tree candles and plenty of festive dinner candles. Stunning.
