Red-to-toe: How to wear the hottest colour of the season

Ever since the TikTok viral “unexpected red” theory entered our lives back in January, red has been dominating the interior and fashion world, alike. From influencers sporting fiery red Sambas to Swifties embracing Red era outfits (and everything in between), it’s certainly been the ‘It’ colour of SS24. But with Google searches of ‘red shoes’ up 1439% this week alone – the colour isn’t going anywhere for AW24. In recent weeks, we’ve seen Halle Bailey dripping with sequins in *that* red dress at the VMAs, Kylie Jenner’s FROW look at Jacquemus’ AW24 PFW show and burgundy everything flying off the shelves, meaning red will continue to be a staple in our wardrobes for many more months. Whether you love statement scarlet or deep burgundy, here’s our favourite ways to wear red in all its shades…

The must-have layer: A red jacket

Ever since we saw Daisy Edgar Jones in a deep rioja red jacket on her Twisters press tour, we knew we needed one in our arsenal. Her stylist paired it with a white tee, micro shorts and classic loafers – but for Autumn, switch out the shorts for a pair of dark denim.

But this autumn, it’s not just about deep, oxblood reds. Cherry red jackets are hot this cold season too (did anyone see Anya Taylor-Joy’s at the Grammy’s party?). Try our Rubi Tweed Jacket with inky blue jeans, for a polished, preppy, vintage Chanel aesthetic.

Our favourite way to wear it: Head-to-toe

From the AW24 catwalks, *the* stand-out way to wear red is to stand out in it. If the Hermes show is anything to go by, styling scarlet separates from head to toe is sure to turn heads. To channel your inner Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski, try our red knitted dress with matching red pumps and coat or for a softer take on the trend, our Amy red jacket and matching red mini skirt with patent slingbacks. Chic, confident and cool.

Trending: Warm knitwear, even hotter hues

As Elle recently reported, “the hottest winter outfits start with a fiery red knit” – and they were right. Stylish celebs like Emma Chamberlain and Hailey Bieber have us all wanting a tomato red cardigan now the temperature’s dropped. To recreate their looks, try our Cora Red Cardigan (offering a little bit of drama with those frilly cuffs) or cosy up in our Suki Red Cardigan with scalloped detailing and gold buttons for a more stand-out look. Just act fast, red knits are selling out fast everywhere

Go retro with Bottega burgundy-red trousers

With connotations of power and energy, red is a colour that naturally stands out. On the runway for Bottega’s AW24 show, a deeper, easy-to-wear red-wine hue soaked through to leather trench coats, spliced dresses, slouchy knits and flared trousers, paired with earthy neutrals (brown, camel and charcoal) for a more retro 70s aesthetic. And their statement on the collection rings true, “silhouettes from different eras and seasons combine and are compressed to make something distinctly now.”

This might just be the coolest way to wear red this autumn. Get the look with our Samira burgundy red trousers with a ruffle blouse  in neutral hues.

Red skirt + pink top = Playful perfection

Styling red with another pigment-popping colour (like pink) creates a head-turning look that’s also totally on trend. Designers like Molly Goddard continuously use these two colours together – it was the showpiece of her AW24 collection. Simone Rocha’s fun and flirty SS25 collection also features balletcore-inspired pink and red organza dresses, so we know this dreamy combo is here to stay.

For a dose of dopamine dressing you can wear right now, pair a bright pink knit like our Bonita Bobble Jumper with a burgundy red skirt – or subtly incorporate this trend into any look with these red and pink gemstone earrings
