New Season Style: Embroidered Jeans

Hailed as one of the most covetable trends of SS17, embroidered denim is everywhere this season. Discover fashion’s latest obsession with our style round-up, and find out how you can introduce the trend into your everyday wardrobe.

Catwalk

Alexander McQueen, SS17 | Dolce & Gabbana, SS17

Embroidered denim reigned supreme on the SS17 catwalks. Multi-coloured flowers blossomed on patchwork jeans at Alexander McQueen’s ready-to-wear collection, inspired by the wild flora of Scottish landscapes.  Elsewhere, Dolce & Gabbana favoured more distressed denim, heavily embellished with rosettes and bejewelled crosses. Other designers also followed suit, with the likes of Gucci adopting more theatrical embroideries, while Marc Jacobs gave the trend a youthful spin with schoolbook sketches of broken hearts.

High street interpretations of embroidered denim have further proved the trend’s wearability, marking its place as a key wardrobe item for spring and summer. Although daunting at first sight, the good news is that you won’t have to stray too far from your personal style to get on board with fashion’s latest obsession. A classic, straight-leg jean in a dark wash offers a more classic take on the trend, while floral tonal embroideries allow it to remain decidedly low-key.  Just remember to keep patterns in focus by wearing yours with an understated blouse or top, or – if you’re feeling brave – try it with a tucked-in denim shirt in a lighter shade.
